To kick off our cells unit, my Bio students participated in a CELL ORGANELLES SPEED DATING ACTIVITY!Students were assigned an organelle to research and created a dating profile. Most of my bio students come to me with no understanding of chemical reactions. (Our students take Bio before Physical Science or Chem.) I find that it’s really difficult to teach “Chemistry of Life” if students don’t understand basic Chem.I decided that I would do the elephant toothpaste demo so that when I’m teaching about Chem Rxns, students will have something to help them visualize the process. I always love this demo. It makes me want to teach Physical Science again.Here’s the recipe that most groups used:To get a good reaction…50 mL 30% Hydrogen peroxide 5-10 mL dish detergent 20 mL Potassium iodide solution (1M)a few drops of food coloring The best reaction was in a 1000 mL flask*Note: the last group in the video doubled their recipe! 😉#elephanttoothpaste #biologyteacher #scienceteacher #scienceteachers #iteachscience #highschoolscience
