I’m starting my cell transport lesson with this fun CELL MEMBRANE BUBBLE LAB In this lab, students perform 4 tasks that model properties of the cell membrane. This lab is so easy to set up and is always a student favorite. To get step-by-step details and the link to a FREE lab sheet download, visit my blog 👇🏼www.thetrendyscienceteacher.com/bubbles
To kick off our cells unit, my Bio students participated in a CELL ORGANELLES SPEED DATING ACTIVITY!Students were assigned an organelle to research and created a dating profile. Then, they “dated” each other to learn more about the different organelles that are found in cells.I served punch and put tea light candles in the desk. @maniacsinthemiddle came in clutch with her ❤️ love-themed playlist on Spotify (search Miss Bensko to find it).It was the best day! 🤩To use in your classroom, head to👇🏼www.thetrendyscienceteacher.com/date#biology #biologyteachers #biologyclass #highschoolbiology #biologylab #biologyteacher #biologyteachersofinstagram
Whoo hoo! Today, we start our cells unit. Cells is my favorite bio unit to teach. What’s yours?#cells #biology #biologyteacher #biologylab #biologyteachers
Most of my bio students come to me with no understanding of chemical reactions. (Our students take Bio before Physical Science or Chem.) I find that it’s really difficult to teach “Chemistry of Life” if students don’t understand basic Chem.I decided that I would do the elephant toothpaste demo so that when I’m teaching about Chem Rxns, students will have something to help them visualize the process. I always love this demo. It makes me want to teach Physical Science again. Here’s the recipe that most groups used:To get a good reaction…50 mL 30% Hydrogen peroxide 5-10 mL dish detergent 20 mL Potassium iodide solution (1M)a few drops of food coloring The best reaction was in a 1000 mL flask*Note: the last group in the video doubled their recipe! 😉#elephanttoothpaste #biologyteacher #scienceteacher #scienceteachers #iteachscience #highschoolscience

Last week, my forensics students learned about @the_innocence_project. They researched people that had been exonerated through TIP and created a banner to showcase their work. I love how they turned out!#innocenceproject #forensics #forensicscience #iteachforensics #forensicsteacher #highschoolforensics #forensicsclass
Another day…. another lab 🥼 Today in Biology, students tested their knowledge of macromolecules with this engaging Macromolecules Murder Mystery 🕵️♀️ For this lab and more fun ways to teach macros, head to www.thetrendyscienceteacher.com/macros#biology #biologyteachers #iteachbio #bio #bioteacher #biologylab #scienceteacher #highschoolscience
This HOMER-o-stasis lab is 🔥!!!To model homeostasis, my students were tasked with keeping Homer alive for 5 minutes by keeping his fluid levels, electrolyte concentration, and body temperature constant. The only problem was that Homer had a slight leak, making it difficult to keep him alive. 🥴I have included set-up instructions and a link to download this lab over on my blog:www.thetrendyscienceteacher.com/homeostasis Your students are going to love this one!!!#biologylab #iteachbiology #biologyteachers #biology #scienceteacher #middleschoolscience #highschoolscience
Today, in forensics, we learned about the Innocence Project.Students had to research a person from the IP website that was exonerated and create a banner to showcase their research.I loved how they turned out! 😍#iteachforensics #forensicsteacher #forensicscience #forensics #forensicscientist
