Description
Provide an engaging Forensics activity that allows your students to take on the role of a fiber and textile analyst. Your students will begin this activity with a request from local investigators that need their help in solving an arson crime. Crime scene investigators collected burned fibers from the scene and need your students’ help in identifying this unknown fiber. This lab is divided into two parts. In the first part, students will conduct a fiber burn analysis to identify the fibers that are found on the 6 suspects’ clothing. Once the fibers are identified, the burned samples are compared to the crime scene samples to secure and identify. SO. MUCH. FUN! I have also included an editable PowerPoint presentation (complete with an instructional video) as well as an editable Fiber Burn Analysis Chart to customize for your classroom needs. It’s an ENTIRE lesson- ready to go!
*No knowledge of fibers is needed to conduct this lab, making it perfect for an intro or reinforcement activity.
Need a digital option? No problem! I am including a Google Slides version of this lab, making it perfect for distance learning, flipped classrooms, online courses and traditional classrooms!
