Forensics Teachers! Check out this cute set up from one of the members of my Forensic Teacher Collaborative FB group, Jami Wilson.
She is having her students write a creative crime story from their observations of this scene.
I love the way that she is incorporating writing into her Forensics Curriculum!

We are finally starting our 🩸 BLOOD EVIDENCE 🩸 unit over in Forensics and we kicked it off with a lesson over blood typing.
After teaching about serology and blood typing, I had my students try their hand at a little murder mystery lab that I call DUMPING GROUND. ⚰️
This lab is so easy to set up and only uses household chemicals!

I’m starting my cell transport lesson with this fun 🫧 CELL MEMBRANE BUBBLE LAB 🫧
In this lab, students perform 4 tasks that model properties of the cell membrane.
This lab is so easy to set up and is always a student favorite.

To kick off our cells unit, my Bio students participated in a CELL ORGANELLES SPEED DATING ACTIVITY!
Students were assigned an organelle to research and created a dating profile. Then, they “dated” each other to learn more about the different organelles that are found in cells.
I served punch and put tea light candles in the desk. @maniacsinthemiddle came in clutch with her ❤️ love-themed playlist on Spotify (search Miss Bensko to find it).
It was the best day! 🤩

Most of my bio students come to me with no understanding of chemical reactions. (Our students take Bio before Physical Science or Chem.)
I find that it’s really difficult to teach “Chemistry of Life” if students don’t understand basic Chem.
I decided that I would do the elephant toothpaste demo so that when I’m teaching about Chem Rxns, students will have something to help them visualize the process.
I always love this demo. It makes me want to teach Physical Science again.
Here’s the recipe that most groups used:
To get a good reaction…
50 mL 30% Hydrogen peroxide
5-10 mL dish detergent
20 mL Potassium iodide solution (1M)
a few drops of food coloring
The best reaction was in a 1000 mL flask
*Note: the last group in the video doubled their recipe! 😉

Last week, my forensics students learned about @the_innocence_project. They researched people that had been exonerated through TIP and created a banner to showcase their work. I love how they turned out!
